New Site Model

I've built a new site model that is correct in topography and contains a pretty rich context.

The file has three groups:

Work Layers -- lines and objects used to control, shape, and align physical forms.

Existing Conditions -- Things that surround the site as they are today.

Project -- In this group I've put the existing slope of the site, a neutral 6 inch thick plane that is as tall as the highest point on the site, three 8 inch thick 8 foot high walls (one on the edge of the site, one aligned with the center point of the westerly curb radius, one set 5 feet in from the edge of the site), and a neutral element (like a bench) out in the open space.  These elements should help you start thinking about what can go in this place and what limits you have in placing them.

We'll have a short run through this model and I'll show you things like how to take views, set sun angles, modify elements, and whatever else you want to go through about how to make a model.
We'll work for two hours and re-group for the final hour to figure out where we are at.

This model is pretty tight but it is a large file.

The grid in the landscape is 24 inches by 24 inches.

  1. This thing lags like crazy for me, so if you're having troubles as well, be sure to isolate some objects. Do this by right-clicking the object you're working on and selecting Isolate Objects. Right-click and select Reveal Objects to bring everything else back.

  2. Or turn off everything but the site section of the model and that should help it.

I know I have a pretty fast computer but is mine really that much quicker?

There are also a lot of ghosted objects in the thing.
You have the source linked to this page.

In your file click "Clear All Ghosted" and see if that really speeds it up.
    (It will)
